Investigations<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

Triple assessment<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

– Clinical examination.<\/strong><\/span>
\n– Mammography<\/strong> +\/- Ultrasound, for over 35 years old.<\/span>
\n– Ultrasound<\/strong> for the under 35 years old.<\/span>
\n– Histology<\/strong>, If there is a palpable or radiological abnormality, a CORE needle <\/span>biopsy is a must to make and confirm a diagnosis.<\/span>
\n– Histology \u2013 Estrogen and Progesteron and Her2 receptors.<\/strong> (Er,Pr,Her2)<\/span>
\n– Fine needle sample<\/strong> carries a high false negative rate and cannot<\/span>
\ndifferentiate between various types of tumors.<\/span>
\n– If a malignant tumor is confirmed:<\/strong><\/span>
\no Chest x-ray is basic.<\/strong><\/span>
\no Complete blood picture.<\/strong><\/span>
\no Kidney function tests.<\/strong><\/span>
\no Liver function tests.<\/strong><\/span>
\no CT Scan,<\/strong> only if Inflammatory cancer or tumor larger than<\/span>
\n5 centimeter or locally advanced cancer or abnormal Liver<\/span>
\nfunction test or heavy Lymph nodes involvement.<\/span>
\no Bone Scan,<\/strong> is ONLY needed if CT scan shows bone lesions<\/span>
\nor there is localized bone pain.<\/span>
\no Tumor markers:<\/strong> like ca15.3 is UNNECESSARY.<\/span>
\no MRI,<\/strong> is indicated if:<\/span><\/p>\n

– Discrepancy between clinical and radiological<\/span>
\nfindings.<\/span><\/p>\n

– Invasive Lobular Cancer and the patient is keen<\/span>
\non preserving the Breast.<\/span>
\n– To screen the very young patient.<\/span>
\n– Paget`s disease 9if the patient is keen on breast<\/span>
\npreservation.<\/span>
\n– The very dense breast.<\/span>
